Wonkak Kim, clarinet



Award-winning clarinetist Wonkak Kim has dazzled audiences with playing that is “virtuosic and stirring” (Journal de Morges, Switzerland). Collaborating with Mr. Kim is pianist Grace Eun-Hye Choi.

    Hailed by critics around the world as “excellent” (The Washington Post) and as a “tour de force” (Classical Voice of North Carolina), clarinetist Wonkak Kim has quickly established himself at the forefront of his generation, concertizing throughout the United States, Costa Rica, South Korea and Europe. Mr. Kim, who began studying clarinet with Kenneth Lee at the age of fifteen, has been a featured soloist with more than a dozen orchestras, performing concertos by Mozart, Nielsen, Spohr, Weber, and Copland. As a prizewinner of numerous national and international competitions, he has appeared in Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center, German Embassy in Washington D.C., and Constitution Hall.

    Concert Parking
    Library customers who use the public garage at the corner of Duval Street and Main Street may take their garage tickets to the ground-floor Popular Services Desk to get validation for free parking weekday evenings when entering after 5 p.m., and on weekends. Free on-street parking is also available on weekends and evenings after 6 p.m.

    James Campbell's concerts have taken him to over 25 countries, appearing as soloist with over 50 orchestras including the Montreal Symphony, the Russian Philharmonic, the London Symphony, and the Boston Pops. He has performed with Glenn Gould, Aaron Copland, over 30 different string quartets, and jazz with pianist Gene DiNovi.

    He has over 40 recordings encompassing most of the standard clarinet repertoire. His recording of the Brahms Clarinet Quintet was chosen by BBC Radio and the London Times as the best available.
