St. Augustine Music Festival 11th Season
Presented FREE to audiences of all ages, features musicians from the Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra joined by internationally renowned artists presenting a variety of classical compositions in the historic Cathedral Basilica located in picturesque St. Augustine, Florida. Now in its 11th year, the event is garnering national attention as the largest free classical music festival in the USA, attracting more than 5000 attendees over two weekends. The festival provides the opportunity for new and avid concert goers to appreciate live classical music of the highest quality in the Cathedral’s uplifting setting.

Akropolis Reed Quintet

The Akropolis Reed Quintet takes listeners on extraordinary musical adventures, performing an innovative repertoire with acclaimed precision. Founded in 2009 at the University of Michigan and the first ever reed quintet to win the Fischoff Gold Medal in 2014, Akropolis took Grand Prize at the MTNA and Plowman chamber music competitions consecutively in 2011, and has garnered prizes at three additional national competitions. Don Thompson Chorale

The Don Thompson Chorale presents the final performance of its 21st season. The centerpiece of the concert is Gabriel Faure's magnificent Requiem, presented with organ and orchestra, and will also feature choral works by Beethoven, Brahms, and Mendelssohn. This performance will be dedicated to the memory of the group's director emeritus and namesake, Don Thompson, who passed away in March, after a long illness. Admission to the concert is free; donations are appreciated.

This free concert includes “Behold a Host” arranged by John Ferguson, “Variation on ‘Children of the Heavenly Father” arranged by David Dahl, and “The Three Festivals” by Herman Belinski. An offering will be taken.

Founded in 1859, the University of Michigan Men's Glee Club is one of the oldest collegiate choruses in the United States and long acclaimed as one of the finest male choruses in the world. Active as a solo and chamber music recitalist, oboist Susan Hicks Brashier has performed throughout the United States and in Europe, and also as principal oboist with the Kansas City Chamber Orchestra, Kansas City Camerata and Albany (GA) Symphony Orchestra. An avid chamber musician, Dr. Shannon Lowe is Associate Professor of Bassoon at Valdosta State University and principal bassoonist of both the Valdosta Symphony Orchestra and Albany (GA) Symphony Orchestra. Another faculty artist from Valdosta State, award-winning pianist Maila Gutierrez Springfield is a member of the Maharlika Trio.
